Newsletter groups

Group your contacts (e.g. Corporates, Personal, Xmas) and export each group as a CSV ready to import into Mailchimp or your email tool.

What are newsletter groups?

Newsletter groups are mailing lists you build from your existing contacts. A single contact can belong to as many groups as you want β€” for example a corporate client might be in Corporates and Xmas.

Newsletter groups are separate from order tags. Tags label quotes and orders for operations; newsletter groups are about who you want to email.

Creating a group

  1. Open the Customer dashboard and click Newsletter.
  2. Click New group.
  3. Give the group a short, recognisable name (e.g. "Corporates", "Personal", "Xmas").
  4. Pick a colour so the group is easy to spot in the list.
  5. Click Create group β€” you'll go straight into the manage-contacts screen.

Adding contacts to a group

Inside a group, the manage-contacts screen shows every contact in your account. Use the filter chips at the top to switch between:

  • All contacts β€” see everyone, in the group or not.
  • In group β€” only the contacts already in this group.
  • Not in group β€” useful for finding new people to add.

Search by name, email or company at the top, tick the contacts you want, then click Add to group or Remove from group. You can do this in bulk β€” tick the header checkbox to select everyone on the current page.

Exporting to your email tool

Click Export CSV on the group and choose the format that matches the tool you're importing into:

  • Mailchimp β€” column names match Mailchimp's audience import.
  • Generic CSV β€” plain columns that work with most ESPs.
  • Constant Contact β€” column names for Constant Contact's import.
  • Google Contacts β€” compatible with Google Contacts CSV import.

Exports only include contacts with an email address who haven't been marked as unsubscribed.

Tips

  • Keep group names short β€” they often appear as a Mailchimp tag on import.
  • A contact can be in many groups. There's no need to duplicate them.
  • Deleting a group doesn't delete the contacts β€” it just removes their membership.
