Customer Menu Choices: Let Customers Pick Their Dishes When They Accept

By Andrew Hemphill · 30 October 2026

A customer says yes to your quote, and then the emails start: which two mains, which salads, did they want the dessert upgrade? Puree’s new customer menu choices let them answer all of that themselves, in the same moment they accept. You decide which choices are theirs; they tick their dishes and any extras, type their name and accept. Their picks go straight into the quote, and you both get an email with the lot. Customers can only choose from the package choices you leave to them and your optional extras: they can’t change anything else on the quote.

Choices You Hand Over, Dishes You Still Control

Customer choices build on your packages. On any Flexi choice items card, set Customer can choose when accepting the quote to Yes, and that choice is the customer’s to make. Leave it on No and you pick, as you always have. One package can mix both: you choose the canapés, they choose the mains and dessert.

They only ever choose from the dishes on the card, up to its number of selections, with the options you’ve set. Each quote keeps the menu it was given when the package went on it, so changing a package later never changes a quote you’ve already sent.

What Your Customer Sees

When they click Accept Quote, a Your selections section opens, laid out like your quote:

  • Choose my menu now or I’ll choose later, for customers who need to check with their guests first.
  • Each heading’s dishes with a counter, “0 of 2 chosen”, that stops them choosing too many.
  • Any dish options, such as a sauce or a gluten-free version, with your defaults already picked.
  • Your Optional Extras, ready to add with a tick, and an I’d like more info box on anything priced on application.
  • A running total: “Your selections add $207.00. New total $3,335.00.”

The Email You Both Get

The acceptance email now includes Your selections: every dish under its heading, the optional extras added with their prices, any P.O.A extras they’d like to hear about, and a “to follow” note if they chose later. It goes to your team and the customer, so everyone is working from the same menu.

Changes After Acceptance

Plans change. An accepted quote now shows a Request changes button, so the customer can send you a note (and tick the open choices or extras they want to ask about) without hunting for your email address. It emails your team; nothing on the quote moves until you change it. You decide how close to the event the button stays: Hide Request changes [N] days before the event turns it off from that day, and tells customers to contact you directly.

Everything the customer picked or asked is in the order’s audit trail, in plain words: Items selected, Optional extras selected, More info requested.

Getting Started

  1. In Items → Packages, set Customer can choose when accepting the quote to Yes on the choices your customers should make, and check their dishes.
  2. In Settings → Account Details, turn on Customers make menu choices in the Customer menu choices panel, and set the Request changes cutoff if you want one.
  3. Add the package to a quote, leave those choices open, and send it.
